Tom McCutheon and Oisin Pepper were crowned All Ireland u11 60m team champions when storming to victory in fine style in an event where Tom had to run his race twice due to technical difficulties. Well done lads on a great performance, Tom ran 9.20 while Oisin clocked 9.19 Cian Hodgins and Jack O'Callaghan jumped very well in the u10 long jump to claim the silver with jumps of 3.82m for Jack and 3.48m for Cian. Cian joined Tom Walsh for the u10 500m and when the times were added up, 1.37.78 for Tom and 1.38.29 for Cian, the lads just missed out on 3rd place by three hundredths of a second. This was a very brave attempt by both lads and it was very unfortunate for Cian that he was carrying an injury into the race but he gave his all and both will be challenging for honours soon. Alex Reynolds and Ben Connolly also just missed out on a medal when they finished 4th in the u11 Turbo Javelin. Alex threw 21.73m and Ben 19.10m. Zak Egan and Filip McIntyre finished 8th in the u10 Turbo Javelin with Zak throwing 10.09m and Filip 15.79m. Both lads gained great experience from competing at this level. Our boys u10 relay team rounded off the day in great style by winning the silver medal. After coming through their heat the team of Tom Walsh, Zak Egan, Filip McIntyre and Jack O'Callaghan put in a super effort in the final and were unlucky to miss out on the gold but. They put in a great performance, running 60.92secs. Well done to all of our athletes who got to this stage. This spells the end of their outdoor season and everybody can be very proud of their achievements to date throughout the year. Photos to follow...
EVENT DATE - Sat 29/03/14 Venue - Athlone IT Uploaded by Garrett Moylan, with thanks to PRO Ray Deering --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nenagh Olympic athletes brought home two sets of gold medals from this years A.A.I. Juvenile Indoor Championships Relay, 2 gold, 0 silver and 0 bronze. The Summary : Boys u13 4x100m : Aaron Walsh, Ted Collins, Aaron Morgan and Josh Egan - Gold Girls u15 4x200m : Sadbh O'Mahony, Aoife Dunne, Ellen Lane(H)/Olivia Moylan(F), Alannah Deering, Lauren Moylan - Gold The curtain came down on the Indoor season when Athlone I.T. hosted the Relay Championships and it was a day where we had two teams crowned All Ireland Champions and a number of decent runs by our other teams. In the space of five minutes during the morning session, our boys u13 and girls u15 teams stormed to victory in their finals. These were brilliant performances by our athletes against the best competition in the country and the club is extremely proud of their achievements. The relay day always provides great excitement, thrills, spills and disappointments and today was no different with drama all the way through to the end of what was a great day of athletics. Boys u13 4x100m : Aaron Walsh, Ted Collins, Aaron Morgan and Josh Egan - These were first in action and they set the tone for the day with a comfortable qualification in the heat. In the final the lads once again produced the goods with a super display of relay running. Aaron Walsh had another great start and he handed over to Ted who stormed up the home straight holding a good position before passing the baton to Aaron Morgan who flew around the bend and avoided the melee at the final changeover, then handing over to Josh. On the final leg, there are a few athletes that you would want and Josh is one of them and once he got a sniff of the lead he powered up the inside and was first cross the line in a time of 54.89, to the delight of the Nenagh support. Well done to the lads on this win and it gives great encouragement to all to see them imporving on their bronze in last years relays. Girls u15 4x200m : Sadbh O Mahony, Aoife Dunne, Ellen Lane(Heat)-Olivia Moylan(Final), Alannah Deering - As the boys were winning their race the girls u15 were on the infield awaiting their final and they must’ve been inspired by what they had seen as they too claimed the gold medal in the 4x200m race to add to their impressive relay haul. The ladies had safely come through the heats with fine runs and were well aware that going into the fina, very little separated themselves and several other teams. Sadbh lead the team and once again produced a super run showing great power at the end to hold off her nearest opponent before passing the baton to Aoife who did brilliantly against some strong runners to set the team up for victory with a super leg. Olivia Moylan came in for Ellen on the 3rd leg and showed her great experience when making room for herself on the bend before powering down the back straight and handing over to Alannah in the lead and it was a lead she retained for her team, as Alannah stormed around and in the end the margin of victory was very impressive, with a winning time of 1.49.72. This group of girls have always produced the goods when needed, also it was great to see their teammate, Lauren Moylan join them on the podium as she continues to recover from injury - we wish her well. The morning session was not without its disappointments though and because of an injury and a withdrawal, two of our teams didn’t progress from their heats. Our girls u17 team which was to consist of Amy White, Leah Farnan, Emma Hennessy and Ciardha Maher had to be withdrawn just before their heat due to a set of unfortunate circumstances. Our boys u19 team of Michael Quilligan, Liam Finn, Micheal Hogan and Daniel Keating were going well in their heat when Daniel suffered a leg injury coming into the final bend causing him to lose momentum and unfortunately they missed out on a fastest loser spot in the final. We wish Daniel a speedy recovery. We had only one team in the afternoon session, our girls u18, and after a good showing in the heat by Amy White, Ciara Cummins, Leah Farnan and Aoife Deering the team progressed to the final. Ciardha Maher came in for Leah but the opposition proved too strong for the girls and they finished in 6th place but as a consolation their times were faster than what they had ran in the Munsters. As we have reached the end of the Indoor season, a season which was very successful for the club and our athletes, we would like to thank everybody helped in any way to make it the success it was. Venue - Athlone IT Uploaded by Garrett Moylan, with thanks to PRO Ray Deering --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nenagh Olympic athletes brought home seven medals from this years A.A.I. Juvenile Indoor Championships, two gold, two silver and three bronze. The Summary: Josh Egan - Gold U13 Long Jump, Bronze U18 Shot Putt Deirbhile Ryan - Gold U18 Triple Jump Padraic Hassett - Silver U12 60m Ciara Cummins - Silver U18 1500m, Silver U18 800m Joseph Mc Evoy - Bronze u14 High Jump There were many new personal bests produced by our athletes, those who won and those who didn’t and we can be very encouraged by these performances. As you can imagine the standard in most events was very high and the experience of competing at this level will stand to all who participated. Well done to all of our athletes who made it to this stage and who did the club proud. Saturday It was a great day of action and Nenagh athletes contributed to it with some fine performances. Not only did our medal winners excel but we also had excellent displays from others just outside the podium places with several personal bests produced. Josh Egan did brilliantly to claim the title of All Ireland u13 Long Jump champion with a winning jump of 4.71m which is a new personal best and a huge jump for him. Josh produced a fine series of jumps throughout the competition and fully deserved the gold medal. Deirbhile Ryan won the u18 Triple Jump with a winning leap of 10.67m and also put together a good series of jumps against her opponents. Padraic Hassett made the u12 60m final by the skin of his teeth as a fastest loser but made the most of his chance in the final to claim the silver with a determined run. Ciara Cummins' silver in the u18 1500m was the result of a courageous run when, despite not being at her best, she dug deep to finish in 2nd place. Joseph Mc Evoy was our bronze medal winner jumping 1.55m in the u14 High Jump. Joseph was very unlucky not to have gone higher as he just clipped off 1.58m before exiting the competition. Others in action on Saturday were as follows: Aoife Deering was 4th in the u18 1500m with a seasons best 5.00.27 mins while Ted Collins set a pb in the u13 600m of 1.45.08mins for 6th place. Emma Hennessy was 5th in the u17 Long Jump with 5.00m and Alannah Deering set a new pb of 1.50m for 6th in the u15 High Jump. Amy White was 5th in her u17 60m heat and 7th in the Shot, while Shane Mc Shera-Quinn was a little below his best when finishing 6th in the u13 Shot. Sean Carolan was in the u14 shot and Jamie Kennedy was 11th in the u12 High Jump with a jump of 1.15m. Mikey Quilligan was very unlucky to be clipped from behind thus ending up on the ground in his u18 400m heat and ruining his chances of making the final while Liam Finn also failed to progress from his u19 400m heat where he ran 56.78secs. Sunday Eight atheletes were in action producing a return of bronze medals as well as some fine performances. Deribhile Ryan added to her gold from yesterday with a bronze in the u18 Shot where her best throw of the day was 11.84m. Ciara Cummins had a solid run in the u18 800m final clocking a time of 2.19 and in the process secured a second medal for herself (a bronze) after a successful two days. Our other athletes in action on Sunday as follows. Amy White showed continuing progress by making the u17 200m final and clocking 26.51 for a 4th place finish. Sean Carolan also finished 4th in his event, the u14 Long Jump where his best jump was 4.67m, while Padraic Hassett completed a very good weekend personally with a 5th place in the u12 Long Jump and a pb of 4.00m. Josh Egan also had a good two days, following his gold yesterday he was 7th in the final of the u13 60m Hurdles today. Michael Quilligan produced a pb of 23.08 in his u18 200m heat but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to see him into the final which shows the standard of athlete he’s competing against. Aoife Deering ran 2.29 for a respectabale 7th place finish in the u18 800m final. Overall it was a good weekend for our athletes with medals won and experience gained. Congratulations to all who competed whether medalists or not, it isn't every athlete that makes it to compete in the national championships! More photos can be viewed by clicking the links below.
